1. JOB PURPOSE

  • The Appointed Actuary is integral to upholding financial stability and regulatory compliance for the life insurance company. This role ensures actuarial practices meet local regulations and supports strategic decision-making across product pricing, risk management, reserving, and financial forecasting. As a trusted advisor, the Appointed Actuary collaborates closely with executive leadership and regional offices to support sustainable growth, strengthening market position, and fostering stakeholder confidence. 

2. ACCOUNTABILITIES

Regulatory Reporting and Compliance 

  • Review and approve the actuarial regulatory report
  • Review and approve yearly fund splitting/dividend declaration
  • Review and approve monthly reserve/solvency
  • Review some internal reports (Financial condition report, reinsurance program report)
  • Work with Finance team to explain monthly profit & loss (P&L) results to present company & Board members
  • Support risk-based capital (RBC) framwork implementation, embeding risk management in product pricing & cash-flows projections 

Product Pricing and Evaluation 

  • Review the pricing document submitted to regional office
  • Review and sign off pricing assumptions, policy wording, and sales illustrations to ensure accuracy and compliance
  • Conduct ongoing expense studies to improve pricing and best-estimate assumptions for new products
  • Support business planning by modeling financial scenarios, including P&L simulation & capital strategies 

Risk Management

  • Review the material for actuarial key risks at Risk Committee meeting
  • Support costing and review yearly compensations scheme for sales force (Agency & Alternative Distribution)
  • Review the half-yearly/ full yearly Embedded Value results
  • Support to review the material of monthly CEO reports
  • Support to prepare Business Planning financial forecast
  • Review the experience study (persistency, claim, expense)
  • Lead AML strategy enhancements to ensure optimal investment planning and risk mitigation 

Stakeholder and Cross-functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with cross-functional teams, particularly in finance and investment, to integrate actuarial insights into boarder company stategies 
  • Communicate regularly with regional offices and report on actuarial matters to the parent company an board 
  • Coach and mentor atuarial staff, fostering skill development and high standards within the actuarial team

3. JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Education & Experiences

  • University degree or above in Mathematics, Statistics, Actuarial Science, or related field
  • Fellowship of the Society of Actuaries (FSA), or Institute and Faculty of Actuaries (IFoA), The Institute of Actuaries of Australia, Canadian Institute of Actuaries, or fellowship of an official member of the International Actuarial Association
  • At least 10 years of experience with a minimum of 5 years of post-qualification
  • Experience of working in an actuarial department of a multi-national insurance company in a management role
  • Oversea experience, expat is a plus

Technical skills

  • Proficient in actuarial software (e.g., Prophet) and financial modeling; strong knowledge of regulatory requirements in Vietnam and Asia
  • Leadership & Communication: Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to lead cross-functional teams and communicate complex actuarial information to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Problem-Solving & Analytical Skills: Strong analytical mindset with the ability to make data-driven decisions that balance risk and opportunity.
